Mohamed Salah Responds to Jamie Carragher's Criticism Amid Contract Uncertainty
Mohamed Salah has fired back at Jamie Carragher after the Liverpool legend commented on the ongoing uncertainty surrounding his future at Anfield. The Egyptian forward, who has been one of Liverpool's most influential players since joining from Roma in 2017, is yet to agree on a contract extension as his current deal runs down. This has led to growing speculation about his departure, with some cryptic social media posts adding fuel to the fire.
Salah's latest post, featuring him alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold, while Virgil van Dijk appears in the background, generated significant attention, particularly as all three players’ contracts are set to expire at the end of the season. Carragher, when asked for his opinion on the post, chose to praise Virgil van Dijk for his leadership, contrasting it with the ongoing contract saga surrounding Salah and Alexander-Arnold. He suggested that the two forwards could learn from Van Dijk's calmness and focus amidst the uncertainty.
Salah, not one to let the remark slide, responded with a witty caption on the video, writing, "I'm starting to think you're obsessed with me," accompanied by a winking emoji. Carragher took the response light-heartedly, playfully acknowledging Salah's jab by responding, "I've always been obsessed with you @MoSalah. Hopefully that obsession will continue next season."
This back-and-forth is just the latest chapter in the growing tension between Salah and Carragher regarding the forward's contract situation. Back in November, Salah publicly expressed frustration over the lack of progress in contract talks, claiming he felt "more out than in" at the club. Carragher, in turn, criticized Salah for being "selfish," believing the Egyptian was seeking a deal that the club was not prepared to offer.
Despite the public sparring, both Salah and Liverpool remain focused on the present. Salah has been a key player for the Reds, and while his future is still unclear, the club reportedly remains keen to extend his stay. However, the ongoing contract saga continues to cast a shadow over what has been a successful period for Salah at Anfield, and fans are left wondering what the next move will be.
