Ravi Shastra has left footy star turned media personality:
Cricket commentator Ravi Shastra from Channel Seven left former football star and media figure Ryan Fitzgerald in awe with his grand introduction for the coin toss at the Boxing Day Test, which also garnered the admiration of Australian captain Pat Cummins.
Renowned for his dramatic flair during broadcasts, the Indian cricket icon did not disappoint as he introduced Cummins, his counterpart Rohit Sharma, and match official Andy Mycroft at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Thursday morning. We are at the iconic, colossal Melbourne Cricket Ground... also the home of the late great Shane Warne," Shastra announced with enthusiasm.
The gloves are off as we approach toss time. It’s Boxing Day, with the two captains in their respective corners, ready to engage. Rohit Sharma, Pat Cummins, and the match referee, who is intently observing the proceedings."
This comment elicited laughter from both Cummins and Sharma just before the Australian captain won the toss and opted to bat on a day forecasted to reach 40 degrees Celsius. Fitzgerald expressed his astonishment on X, stating, "Is Ravi Shastra a commentator or a trying-too-hard real estate agent attempting to sell a two-bedroom fibro home in Dandong? Even Pat Cummins is cracking up," he remarked. This is not the first instance of Shastra's theatrical coin toss introductions captivating cricket enthusiasts. He delivered a similarly vibrant introduction prior to the first Test against India in Perth on November 22.The 62-year-old former Indian captain amplified his voice to such an extent that he nearly required no microphone as he addressed a seemingly underwhelming crowd at Optus Stadium.
"We're in Western Australia, at the magnificent Perth Stadium, the venue for the first Test match in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy," he began. Speaking of Border and Gavaskar—two legends are present in the center, Allan Border and Sunny Gavaskar—only fitting," he proclaimed while gesturing towards the namesakes of the series.
