Together at Christmas

This year’s ‘Together at Christmas’ concert centers on love and empathy, a fitting theme considering the challenging year the Princess has faced. A voiceover featuring a message from Kate will kick off the ‘Together at Christmas’ carol concert at Westminster Abbey. The broadcast will begin with a special festive message from the royal, where she discusses the significance of love and empathy.

The Princess of Wales urges individuals to ‘slow down and ponder the essential connections we share’ and to choose ‘love over fear’. Her poignant message—shared in a letter to every concert guest on December 6, as well as 15 regional community services, and included in the opening voiceover—was also previewed in a clip from the forthcoming broadcast. Kate expresses: ‘Christmas is among my favorite seasons, a time for gifts, tinsel, and mince pies, but it’s also an opportunity to pause and consider the profound connections that bind us.

‘When we detach ourselves from the demands of everyday life, we create the space to live with open hearts, embracing love, kindness, and forgiveness—core aspects of the Christmas spirit. ‘The Christmas narrative prompts us to reflect on the experiences and emotions of others. It highlights our vulnerabilities and reinforces the need for empathy, demonstrating how much we rely on one another despite our differences. Above all, it encourages a shift toward love, not fear.’

Kate emphasizes: ‘The love we extend to ourselves and to others. Love that listens with empathy, love that is kind and compassionate, love that forgives, and love that brings joy and hope.‘This love is the most precious gift we can receive, not just at Christmas but throughout our lives.’Following her message, the annual festive gathering will be narrated by Scottish actress Kelly Macdonald and will include three special community films showcasing the inspiring stories of individuals and organizations that have supported others in their times of need. Kensington Palace stated: ‘In each film, the groups are depicted receiving letters from the princess inviting them to participate—and in the case of the Sankofa Songsters, to perform—at the Westminster Abbey service.’ The films will highlight the Worcestershire Gingerbread Group, Go Beyond, and the intergenerational choir, the Sankofa
