ADHD often eat to achieve mental and sensory

This study builds on earlier research indicating that individuals with ADHD often seek food for mental and sensory stimulation. A 2015 study highlighted that the brain region associated with pleasure, reward, and motivation often operates sub optimally in individuals with ADHD.
Consequently, those affected may not experience the same internal satisfaction, prompting them to pursue external sources of stimulation, such as food. Food engages the brain by activating the senses, including taste, smell, sight, and touch.

This phenomenon occurs in individuals without ADHD as well, but those with the disorder may be more attuned to such stimulation due to their unique brain chemistry, as noted by Health line. Experts suggest that individuals with ADHD may be prone to overeating in an effort to meet their brains' heightened need for stimulation.
According to the 2015 study, the part of the brain responsible for feelings of pleasure, reward and motivation often does not function properly in people with ADHD.
