An airline passenger has criticized an airline for what she deemed an 'absurd' situation in which she was relocated from her seat to make room for a dog.
The individual was traveling from San Diego to Denver on United Airlines and reported that she was displaced to accommodate 'an enormous service dog.'In a post on Reddit, the traveler stated that the service dog was 'too large to fit on the floor' and was therefore permitted to occupy her seat during the flight.
The passenger recounted: 'The dog was far too big to fit on the floor. When I inquired with the flight attendant, who was several rows away, she merely shrugged in response.'My husband and I attempted to address the issue with the dog's owner, but there was no feasible way for the dog to fit under his legs in the window seat.'Given that we were informed the flight was completely booked and the dog was occupying my seat, I feared I might be removed from the flight due to this dog.'
The passenger noted that eventually, a flight attendant managed to find another seat for her, while the dog remained in the seat next to its owner, which she found 'absurd.'
'A United staff member came on board to speak with the passenger, yet the dog stayed in place,' she added.
The passenger expressed her frustration on Reddit after being moved from her seat to accommodate a service dog on a United Airlines flight.'Ultimately, they somehow found another seat for me, but the dog occupied my seat for the entire flight. It is completely unreasonable that a large dog can displace a paying passenger. United must take action against passengers who misuse the 'service' animal policy.
'How is it permissible for someone to bring such a large dog on board without purchasing an additional seat?'An accompanying photo depicted a large black dog sitting in the middle seat next to its owner. She further remarked: 'United's policy states that service dogs 'cannot be in the aisle or the floor space of adjacent travelers.''Additionally, it is unsanitary for a dog to be outside of a carrier, sitting on passenger seats with its rear on the armrests.
