Christmas with REO Speed wagon
Internal strife and a downturn in record sales during the 1990s negatively impacted the band's success, resulting in the end of their contract with Epic Records. Nevertheless, the label took advantage of the band's past successes by reissuing their albums with updated artwork and design.
In spite of these difficulties, the band persisted in touring, showcasing their classic hits. They independently released an album titled Find Your Way Home in 2007, followed by a holiday album, Not So Silent Night... Christmas with REO Speed wagon, in 2009. Ongoing internal conflicts among band members continued, ultimately leading to the decision to disband. Tensions between Hall, who was recovering from back surgery, and Cronin played a significant role in this outcome.
After nearly sixty years of touring, REO Speed wagon will stop performing as a group. However, Cronin intends to pursue his musical career, joining Styx and former Eagles guitarist Don Felder on the Brotherhood of Rock tour beginning in May 2025. He remains dedicated to preserving the band's legacy for fans. During their final performance, lead vocalist Kevin Cronin, 73, expressed his appreciation for his band mates with whom he had worked for almost six decades. Philbin left in the same year and was replaced by Bruce Hall.
In 1980, the band released Hi Infidelity, which greatly enhanced their visibility in the pop market with hits such as Keep on Lovin' You, Take It on the Run, In Your Letter, and Don't Let Him Go. The album topped the Billboard 200 chart for 15 weeks and sold over 10 million copies. Their 1984 album, Wheels Are Turnin', introduced fans to the chart-topping Can't Fight This Feeling, along with popular tracks I Do Wanna Know and One Lonely Night.
