EastEnders is poised for a significant scheduling change on New Year's Day

As BBC executives have decided to eliminate the early release of episodes on BBC I Player.
Throughout the past year, viewers of the soap have become accustomed to accessing new episodes prior to their scheduled broadcast on the streaming platform. However, they will be disappointed to find that this year's New Year's Day episode will not be available for streaming at 6am as it has been in the past. Instead, fans will need to wait until the evening to view the eagerly awaited New Year's Day episode, which will feature the much-anticipated wedding of Suki Panesar and Eve Unwin.

This episode is expected to be one of the most intense in the show's history, premiering at 10pm on both BBC One and BBC I Player. The Christmas Day episode was filled with tension, as Cindy Beale (portrayed by Michelle Collins) was attacked and left for dead in Square Gardens following the revelation of her affair with Junior Knight (played by Micah Balfour). The identity of Cindy's assailant was hinted at during Thursday's episode, but viewers will discover the true perpetrator as part of EastEnders's 40th Anniversary celebrations in February.

In the episode, Cindy was shown lying on the ground, appearing gravely injured after being struck on the head with a shovel, and was soon found by George and Kathy. George, who had just returned from the boxing gym, confirmed that she was still alive but bleeding from her head. Moments later, Elaine entered her kitchen to find Cindy and George's daughter Anna frantically washing her hands. In a panic, Anna claimed her dog had been sick in her hands to conceal her involvement.

Cindy was quickly taken to the hospital for surgery, where her family gathered and began to accuse one another of the violent act.

George asserted that he had an alibi for the time of Cindy's attack, prompting Gina to suggest that Ian might be responsible, but Elaine quickly defended him. In a fit of frustration, George left to search for his son Junior, the only family member missing from the hospital, after Denise Fox mentioned seeing him "lurking in the shadows." He eventually discovered Junior packing a suitcase with a plane ticket to Dubai, which raised suspicions.

Viewers will have to wait until 10 PM to see the eagerly awaited New Year's Day episode on BBC One. The charged atmosphere led to a confrontation between the two, with George so enraged that he returned to the pub and asked Kojo to support his fabricated alibi, to which Kojo consented. After securing Kojo's agreement, George revealed a blood-stained white shirt from his pocket, leading fans to speculate that he might be the one who attacked Cindy.

However, many fans remain unconvinced, believing that Kojo was actually responsible for the brutal assault on George's ex-wife, leaving her for dead in the snow. They took to social media to express their theories, with one user stating, "I don't want to jump to conclusions, but it seems too early to reveal George as the attacker since he wasn't wearing that shirt earlier in the evening..." Another commented, "It was Kojo. George just provided him with an alibi, thinking he was protecting himself."
