A man armed with a machete was apprehended while attempting to gain access to the U.S. Capitol shortly before Donald Trump's anticipated visit. Trump intends to pay his respects to former President Jimmy Carter, whose body is currently lying in the rotunda of the Capitol in preparation for his state funeral on Thursday.

Several of Trump's Cabinet nominees, including Pete Hegseth, RFK Jr., and Tulsi Gabbard, have been visiting Senate offices today. Authorities disclosed that 'three knives were also discovered in the bag, in addition to the machete.' 'Security screening was briefly halted at the north side of the Capitol Visitor Center during the investigation.'

The individual, whose identity has not been released, faces 'multiple charges of Carrying a Dangerous Weapon.' Capitol Police indicated that further details will be provided soon. This alarming incident occurred just hours before Trump is set to visit Carter's remains in the Capitol Rotunda, where the late president is lying in state, a distinguished honor for prominent deceased politicians.

Trump's visit had been scheduled for several days and was publicly announced in advance. However, authorities have not disclosed any motive for the incident. Following his visit to Carter, the president-elect is anticipated to meet with congressional leaders in preparation for his swearing-in ceremony in two weeks.
