Scottie Scheffler forced to pull out of the first PGA tournament:
Scottie Schaffer has had to withdraw from the first PGA tournament of the year due to sustaining injuries from glass while preparing Christmas dinner. Schaffer was set to participate in the Tour's 2025 season opener, The Sentry, scheduled for January 2-5 in Hawaii. However, following an unusual accident on Christmas Day that required surgery to remove small glass fragments from his right hand, the current World No. 1 will need up to a month for recovery.
"On Christmas Day while preparing dinner, Scottie suffered a puncture wound to the palm of his right hand from broken glass. Small glass fragments remained in the palm, necessitating surgery," his manager Blake Smith stated on Friday.
"He has been advised that he should return to full health in three to four weeks. Regrettably, he will have to withdraw from The Sentry. His next planned tournament is The American Express." This unusual injury marks the latest chapter in what has been a remarkable 2024 for the golf star. Just a month after securing his second Masters title in April, he was notably arrested while entering Valhalla for the PGA Championship, facing multiple charges after allegedly speeding away and dragging a police officer in the process. Fortunately, all charges against the two-time major champion were dropped less than two weeks later.
Days before the dramatic events at Valhalla, Schaffer and his wife Meredith welcomed their first child, Bennett. Meredith was heavily pregnant during The Masters, with Scottie promising to leave Augusta if she went into labor. Schaffer also achieved success at the Paris Olympics, won the FedEx Cup, and became the first golfer since Tiger Woods to earn the Jack Nicklaus Award for three consecutive seasons.
